This September, Berlin's design scene came together for the first edition of Currents. The new city-wide festival celebrates the people, places and ideas shaping contemporary design here. Over three days, showrooms, galleries, studios and independent spaces opened their doors for exhibitions, talks and workshops.

As part of the festival, Deoron brought its latest exhibition to Monopol in Reinickendorf. For five days, the former distillery became a temporary home for more than 65 designers, studios and brands, established names as well as new ones. Furniture, lighting, objects and technology shared the same rooms. We had the pleasure of showing our new sofa Awa as one of the exhibitors.

Deoron has a particular way of bringing design together. Nothing stands in isolation. A sofa sits next to ceramics, sound beside sculptural pieces and everyday objects. Each piece shifts a little in the company it keeps. As a unique trait of Deoron, sound shaped a lot of the exhibition. At its centre stood a sculptural sound system by Atelier d'Ingénierie Fades and New Fidelity, with listening sessions and live performances around it throughout the week. The programme moved between music, conversation and gathering, which gave the rooms a liveliness.

Currents set out to bring the German design community together, from galleries and schools to new creative voices. Deoron added an international perspective, in an exhibition that was as much about atmosphere and interaction as it was about individual objects.

At Noah, good design has always been about more than how something looks. It is about how it feels to live with, day after day, in a room full of other objects. Seeing Awa in this context was a chance to experience the sofa in the setting we design it for, as well as introducing it to press and our community. Among music, people and the work of others, it became what we believe furniture should be: something that creates space for life to happen.
